Baptist Church – Brixham TQ5 8EU

A note with recent images from Raymond Luckhurst, occasional organist during 2017:

This is a rather lovely divided gallery organ by George Osmond of Taunton installed in 1933. It is IIP but with console prepared for choir division, with a good selection of 20 stops, nicely voiced, tubular-pneumatic but responds well. The NPOR record is accurate. The console sits in a challenging well centred behind the AV screen but is comfortable to play, although it would benefit from a solid music stand.

This fine organ is sadly neglected now despite the congregation’s obvious fondness – they enthusiastically raised funds for repairs & tuning by Michael Farley in 2017. The excellent 1980’s Petrof grand piano is similarly cast aside. But both instruments get dusted off occasionally!
